Nanoparticles enhance… our lives

Recently CurTec was kindly invited to visit Nanomakers and explore the world of nanotechnology. For years Nanomakers have been using Wide Neck Drums to pack nanoparticles and naturally we were curious to find out why.
Nanotechnology has become a commonly used word, although not everyone realizes the amazing impact it has on our daily lives. It offers the potential for new and faster kinds of computers, more efficient power sources and life-saving medical treatments. Hundreds of consumer products are already benefiting from nanotechnology.
Silicon-based nanoparticles
Nanoparticles are the building blocks of nanotechnology and prior to being processed into a wide variety of industrial and consumer goods, they need to be carefully packed and protected so that they can be shipped and handled safely. And that is where CurTec steps in.
Nanomakers designs, develops and commercializes patented silicon-based nanoparticles for mechanical reinforcement of materials (metallic alloys, elastomers) and improvement of li-ion batteries' energy density. The manufacturing process of these nanopowders is completely closed so that any contact with people and the environment can be avoided.
Zero contact policy
After leaving the reactor, the nanoparticles are transferred to CurTec drums inside a glove box, in order to contain the low-density, light-weight and very sensitive powders. Cleanliness is paramount to avoid product degradation. The white drums are ideal because they enable the identification of any form of contamination prior to entering the glove box. The screw lid allows safe and easy closing for operators working at arm’s length inside the glove box.
Before leaving the glove box, the drums are hoovered and cleaned with alcohol. Nanoparticles are very sensitive to humidity and the drums’ low moisture vapor transmission rate helps preventing performance loss. Prior to storage, the drums are vacuum sealed which allows end users to detect any form of tampering in their supply chain and creates an additional barrier against moisture vapor and oxygen.
