Compact capacity for substantial gross mass
For dense hazardous solids, the required gross mass can be high even when the volume is small. This creates a particular packaging challenge: finding a compact container that is certified for demanding transport conditions without selecting more capacity than the product requires.
CurTec’s smallest Wide Neck Drums are available in capacities ranging from 2.9 to 6 liters. Despite their compact format, they are UN X-certified for maximum gross masses of up to 20 kg.
The 6-liter Wide Neck Drum is a compelling example. It carries the UN marking 1H2/X20/S:
- 1H2 identifies an open-head plastic drum
- X means the packaging has been tested for Packing Group I and may also be used for Packing Groups II and III, subject to the applicable transport regulations
- 20 represents a maximum gross mass of 20 kg
- S confirms that the certification applies to solids
This combination makes the drum particularly relevant for small quantities of dense, valuable or hazardous materials. Selecting a capacity that closely matches the required fill volume can reduce unnecessary headspace and support more efficient handling, storage and transport.

Tested for demanding transport conditions
UN certification is supported by demanding tests designed to simulate the stresses packaging may face during transport. These include stacking and drop tests, also under freezing conditions. CurTec also performs drop tests during production runs as part of its ongoing quality assurance.
A UN marking does not automatically confirm that packaging is suitable for every hazardous material or shipment. The correct solution depends on factors including the product’s UN number, assigned Packing Group, transport mode and applicable regulations.
