Reusable Click Packs reduce coffee packaging waste

The challenge

A sustainability-focused coffee roaster wanted to replace conventional single-use packaging with a reusable solution for roasted coffee. The packaging still had to protect the product against light and moisture, accommodate natural degassing after roasting and remain practical throughout repeated use. Efficient return logistics and a validated food-safe washing and drying process were also essential to make reuse viable at scale.

Reusable Click Pack pails replace single use packs for roasted coffee

The solution

CurTec proposed a reusable 15-liter Click Pack in black to help protect the coffee from light exposure. Its gasketed closure provides strong moisture vapor protection while allowing excess gas released by freshly roasted coffee to escape without a separate degassing valve. The tool-free closure supports repeated opening and closing, while the nestable design reduces space requirements during return transport and internal storage. A validated washing process enables the packs to be cleaned, dried and returned to circulation safely.

The benefits

The reusable concept replaces large quantities of single-use plastic film and cardboard while simplifying handling for users. Based on the customer’s calculations, the system reaches financial break-even after approximately ten rotations, after which each additional reuse further improves the economics. Nestability supports efficient return logistics, while eliminating disposable packaging reduces waste and supports circular procurement requirements. Together, these benefits help the coffee roaster combine product protection with a practical, lower-waste packaging system.
