CurTec builds a sustainable company
Sustainability and security are engrained in CurTec’s ethos. They are notions reflected in our products: high performance plastic packaging that is functional, excellent quality, easy to use and distinctive by design. But our values of sustainability and security involve much more than our products. CurTec defines sustainability as doing everything possible within our powers to build a better social, economic and ecologic future, meaning we will always strive for improvement.
Our people: The key to the future
People remain the key to our success. Only with their knowledge, skill and enthusiasm can we continue to deliver excellence. That is why we invest in vitality and integration programmes, education and life-phase-oriented HR management.
Reducing energy consumption
Using energy more efficiently and reducing our carbon footprint are important starting points in creating sustainable longevity. Since 2009, CurTec has followed a long-term policy to reduce its energy consumption. Old machines have been replaced by new, energy efficient ones and equipment such as cylinders are now insulated to limit energy loss. Additional new developments to save energy include installing LED lighting, switching to induction heating and separating our cooling water systems – with the latter expected to result in energy savings of 30 per cent.
CurTec’s production process creates various types of waste. Plastic scrap is produced during the manufacture of our products, but waste is also generated through packaging removed from raw material supplies or worn parts from machines. Paper and cardboard, flexible and rigid plastic and steel are all separated and processed by a certified waste collection company.
CurTec’s packaging products are fully reusable, which provides our customers with obvious efficiency gains. We ourselves benefit from the reusability of plastic by grinding our production waste and recycling it or selling it for reuse. Even our suppliers gain by using our durable and reusable plastic crates instead of cardboard packaging, which limits further waste.
Raw materials: Food for thought
CurTec only obtains raw materials from certified suppliers who offer security and share our sustainability philosophy. Our suppliers include Sabic with whom we explore the possibilities of bio-based polyethylene at the Green Chemistry Campus.
Sometimes having a great packaging product isn’t enough. You need assurances that the packaging you use has been sustainably manufactured, but also that it can contribute to the sustainability of your own business. Lightweight, robust packaging can significantly reduce transportation costs, fuel emissions, and protect the environment from hazardous goods.
