PPWR-ready nestable drums strengthen biosimilar logistics

The challenge

A biopharmaceutical manufacturer was sourcing 150-liter nestable drums from the US for use at a European production site. Long international lead times reduced delivery flexibility, while rust on the metal clamping rings caused quality and contamination issues. The existing drums also provided insufficient static and dynamic load capacity, resulting in packaging damage and complaints during sea transport.

The solution

Because no suitable regional alternative was available, CurTec developed a new 150-liter Nestable Drum. Its recyclable mono-material construction makes the packaging PPWR-ready, while increased wall thickness and an optimized tapered shape improve strength, stability and load-bearing performance. Regional production also enables delivery within approximately one day by truck.

The benefits

The new solution shortens lead times, improves supply flexibility and eliminates the rust issues associated with metal clamping rings. Its stronger, stackable design and optimized pallet configuration reduces inbound and outbound logistics requirements and lowers supply-chain costs. Sourcing the drums closer to the production site also reduces dependence on intercontinental transport and its associated environmental impact.

Every critical material brings its own handling, protection and logistics challenges. Talk to CurTec about a packaging solution designed around your product, process and supply chain.
